Image of Reading and Spelling Tests for Students in Years 7, 8 and 9

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to inform you that all Year 7, 8 and 9 students will be sitting the NGRT (National Group Reading Test) and the NGST (National Group Spelling Test) in the coming weeks. The NGRT will be used to find out your child’s current reading ability as compared to the national average, and allow for identification of students who may benefit from interventions or from being stretched further. The NGST is used in the same way to find out about your child’s spelling ability.

Years 7 and 8 will take the tests in the week beginning Monday 23rd May and Year 9 will take the tests in the week beginning Monday 6th June. These tests will take place in English lessons and English teachers will explain the process to students. The assessments will take approximately 50 minutes in total. They will be online and your child will be informed about the computer room that they need to go to for that lesson. It would be helpful if students could bring their own headphones but, if not, headphones will be provided.

Students do not need to do any kind of practice or preparation before the tests.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Clark
Subject Leader for English
