Year 7 to 11:

Durham Johnston Comprehensive School is Local Authority Maintained School, and our Admissions are controlled by Durham County Council.

The school has no influence or control over the admissions process for pupils in Years 7-11.

We hold an open evening in September for families interested in applying for a place in Year 7 for the following academic year. 

You may find the following information helpful if you are applying for a place in Year 7 for the September intake:

  • Durham County Council considers applications for places for this age group.
  • Our Published Admission Numbers (PAN) for 2026/27 for Year 7 is 270 students. This means that there are 270 available places.
  • Parents wishing to apply must do so through Durham County Council, using the links shared above.
  • Our Published Admission Numbers (PAN) for 2025/26 for Year 7 is 265 students. This means that there are 265 available places.
  • Where there are more applications than available places, Durham County Council apply oversubscription criteria, which you can read at this link.
  • Timeline for applying for a school place if your child will be starting Year 7 in September 2026:

    National offer day - offers made.

    If you applied for a place online, you will receive an email on the morning confirming our offer of a school place.

    If you applied by post, you will receive your offer letter in the post.

    You can ask for your child's name to be added to a school waiting list for the 2026/2027 academic year.

    Monday 23 March 2026

    Re-allocation day.

    Any places that become available at schools within County Durham will be offered to pupils at the top of a school's waiting list.

Appeals

Appeals are also managed by Durham County Council, and not the school. Appeals for September 2026 intake should be made by 15th April 2026. You can find the relevant information at this link.
