Ofqual’s Guidance on GCSE & A Level Grades 2021

Ofqual’s guidance ‘Decisions on how GCSE, AS and A level grades will be determined in summer 2021’ has now been published.

You can read their decisions at this link.

The decisions are clearly very important for our GCSE, BTEC and A Level students and their families. They are also very important for all teachers who will need to work within Ofqual’s guidance and will want to do all that they can to support and prepare our students. We will review the materials very carefully and will share our plans for the period 8th March to 18th June after consulting with exam boards and other professional associations.

Whilst Ofqual have published their guidance, we are yet to receive specific detail regarding grading, training materials or the assessments that exam boards have, or will, produce. We will need to consider all of those materials before sharing our specific approach. The Education Secretary wrote today that those materials will be made available ‘before the end of the spring term.’ However, we will ensure that returning students in Years 11, 12 and 13 are made aware of what is expected from 8th March onwards in school and we will regularly update parents and carers via the school website and personal emails so that all families have a detailed understanding of national expectations as soon as they are published.
