Head's Letter to Parents

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had another very busy week in school. Our students have participated in a variety of different activities and I would like to thank all of our guest presenters and visitors for giving up their time. I will continue in my role as acting Headteacher until July 2019 and would like to thank everyone for their support since January. I have recently written to all parents and a link to that particular letter is included below:

Have a good summer and I look forward to working with students, parents and carers in the coming academic year.

Mr O’Sullivan

Robotics@C4L

On Tuesday we took a group of budding computer scientists to the Centre for Life to see the Robotics exhibition.  We saw some amazing displays, interacted with artificial intelligence and we even got to meet the Terminator!  The astronomy show, educational theatre and 4D motion ride were also a highlight!

Gardening Club

We have had a fantastic summer, with the warm weather the crops have grown fantastically well. Our best sellers have been the strawberry hanging baskets and lettuce pots, however the cabbage, carrots, beetroots and tomatoes have all been very successful.

The very generous donations we have received for these crops has raised over £200, a huge increase from last years £60. We were delighted to hand over a cheque for £125 to Mrs Pat Francis from the Durham Foodbank. Mrs Francis told the members of the gardening club that the money we donated would be able to provide 400 people with a meal.

We hope to increase our crop output next year, in order to achieve this we have started to build an extension to the plastic bottle greenhouse. We need a very large amount of 2L straight plastic bottles. These can be brought to school by students and handed over to any science teacher or left at reception.

Rowing Success

Congratulations to Owen all (Y8) on an impressive win in his first singles event at the Nithsdale regatta. The event he won was Open Junior 13 single scull. He won the semi-final against a teammate then onto the final beating a sculler from a Scottish club, an excellent achievement.

We would like to wish Owen the very best of luck for future events.

Mr Kidd, PE Department
