The annual Lower School Public Speaking Competition took place on Thursday 3rd April with eleven Year 7 and 8 students competing fiercely, in front of an audience of parents, teachers and students, for the winner’s shield.

The competition was judged by Mrs Slattery - Deputy Head, Mrs Clark - Subject Leader for English and Mr Johnson -  teacher of History and lead teacher of the Debating Society.

The speeches ranged in terms of tone from serious to light-hearted but each had one aspect in common: they needed to persuade the audience to agree with their viewpoint!

Mrs Slattery commended each contestant in turn for the qualities of their speech.  She then went on to announce Luke Hawkins as this year’s winner for his passionate speech about the need for English cricket to improve!
