Microsoft Office 365 is an Internet based communication and collaboration tool hosted by Microsoft. Office 365 enables staff and students to email, store files, collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in real time from anywhere with Internet capability I.e school or home Wi-Fi. All of the aforementioned can be undertaken within a secure online environment. All of the applications are accessible from any device with a web browser and connection to the Internet. As part of the agreement, students will be able to download and install the full office suite at home for up to 15 devices free of charge (including apps for mobile phones and tablets). Please see the FAQs below for more information on how to do this.
The purpose of this web page is to help guide you on how to find your way around Office 365, learn about the benefits and how to get the most of out the subscription that we have signed up for. We also hope to help answer any questions that you may have. Please keep an eye on our Friday Bulletin for news about when we will be running sessions for parents on how to support your children with Office 365.
To access the portal where you can find all of the online applications including OneDrive, E-mail and the online suite of Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote etc) you will need to type the following URL into a web browser https://id.sims.co.uk/ .
This will work on any device whether it be a Mac, PC, mobile phone or tablet and a shotcut link can also be found on the E-Learning section of the school website.
Once on this page, you will need to login using your normal school email address (your school login ID followed by @durhamjohnston.org.uk) and the password has been emailed to you on your old school email address (Webmail).
If you still need to find out your school email address, please see either your form tutor, or find a time to visit the IT support desk in Lydia.
Your password will be the same as your school password after you next change your school system password.
To change your school system password you need to press Ctrl+Alt+Del when you are next logged in on a school computer and select "Change Password". Remember that your password must be complex, meaning that at a minimum it must be 7 characters long, have at least one capital letter, lower case letter and a number.
If you are logging into the portal for the first time and don't already have the latest office suite installed on your machine, there will be a message inviting you to do so.
If you have already used one of your licences and wish to install on another device, you may need to find the settings option (a cog icon at the top right hand side of the screen). Once there you can select “Office 365 settings” and there is an option to install software.
To install the office apps on a tablet or mobile phone, please visit the app store on your device and download the apps for free. When you open the apps you will be invited to log into the app; please use your school email and normal password to log in as you would to log into the office portal.
